Step into the past as history comes to life during A Grave Affair, the Towns County Historical Society's annual living history cemetery tour.

This year's event will be held at Burch Cemetery on September 10–12, 2026, where guests will walk among the graves and meet the men and women who helped shape the history of Towns County. Through first-person portrayals based on historical research, local volunteers will share the stories of early settlers, veterans, community leaders, educators, and everyday citizens whose lives left a lasting mark on our community.

More than a ghost tour, A Grave Affair is an evening of education, storytelling, and remembrance that connects visitors with the people behind the names carved in stone. Whether you're a lifelong resident, a history enthusiast, or visiting the area for the first time, this unique experience offers a meaningful look into the lives and legacies of those who came before us.

• Times: Thursday - 5:00 PM & 6:30 PM; Friday & Saturday - 5:00 PM, 6:30 PM, 8:00 PM

Please Read Carefully before purchasing tickets:

• Please note the venue is not ADA accessible. We apologize for any inconvenience.

• Due to limited parking at the cemetery, no attendee parking will be permitted on site - no exceptions! 

• Attendee parking and check-in will be at Union Hill Methodist Church, 457 Sunnyside Rd., Hiawassee. Guests will be shuttled to and from the cemetery. 

• Please arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled tour time to allow for time for parking and check-in. The first tour bus will leave promptly at tour time. 

• Guests should wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes and be prepared to walk on uneven ground, grass, and gravel. 

• The event is rain or shine. Please dress appropriately for the weather. 

• Restrooms are not available at the event. Please plan accordingly. 

• You will receive an email confirmation of your ticket. If you do not receive this after purchase, please reach out to us at info@townscountyhistory.org before the event. ​

• All tickets are non-refundable. Tickets can be transferred to another person and date ONLY if there is availability on that date.
